Gallery: Philips CD-i Trackerball

This is the white/beige variant of the Philips CD-i trackerball, one of the many pointing devices for CD-i systems. This variant is much less common than the anthracite grey one. It was intended to be paired with professional/authoring CD-i players, most of which had the same colour.

Some fellow CD-i community members have reported old rumours that this variant of the trackball has issues on certain consumer players. After testing it on a wide range of players, I found one that did indeed have problems: the CD-i 220/20. Upon booting the player, the trackerball works fine. However, after 10-20 seconds, it becomes completely unresponsive. There were a few instances where it would intermittently start working again for a few seconds, but in most cases, it would just freeze. None of my other players experienced issues like this, and I also confirmed that the 220/20 works fine with other input devices.
